Studying Math or Music can be challenging endeavors to undertake. Every individual comes to these subjects with their own unique experiences, strengths, and challenges. I believe that student-centered learning is essential for confidence and mastery of these subjects.
I'm George. While completing my Associate Degrees in Math and Music at Northwest College, I gained experience as a lead tutor for the Peer Tutoring Center, and while completing my Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of Montana, I've continued to develop as a tutor by working for the Math Learning Center on campus. During this time, I've worked with dozens of students, both by recurring appointment and on a drop-in basis. I've also worked privately with college and high school students outside of the college system.
I practice an Empathy-based and Socratic style of tutoring. Rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures by rote, I strive to make the underlying tangible structure of concepts feel viscerally intuitive to students. Through the process of asking and refining questions, I believe we can bring the boundaries of our understanding into clearer focus in a way that enables us to fortify our existing schema and secure an anchor point for new concepts. By understanding and acknowledging our own strengths we provide ourselves with a foundation for further growth.
I hope that through our time together, you are able to gain that feeling of "Yes! Maybe I really can do this!"
I look forward to meeting you and working with you!
