I have always believed that math is less about following rigid rules and more about developing a logical mindset. I earned my BS in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina and furthered my expertise by studying Math Education at Fayetteville State University. This academic combination has provided me with both a deep understanding of complex mathematical principles and the pedagogical tools necessary to communicate them effectively to students of all levels.
During my time at FSU, I gained significant experience helping middle and high school students with their daily homework and exam preparation. This hands-on work allowed me to identify common stumbling blocks in subjects like Algebra and Geometry and develop strategies to overcome them. I focus on a patient, conversational approach, moving away from rote memorization to ensure students understand the "why" behind the formulas. My goal is to build a student's confidence so they can eventually tackle new problems independently.
Beyond mathematics, I am a versatile tutor capable of assisting with various academic subjects by teaching effective study habits and organizational skills. I find that the personalized, one-on-one environment offered by Wyzant allows for the kind of "lightbulb moments" that are often missed in a crowded classroom. Whether I am working with a middle schooler on foundational skills or a high schooler on advanced concepts, I am dedicated to helping them achieve their academic goals and develop a genuine interest in learning.
