My career in healthcare began at age 16 as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where I gained valuable experience in the emergency department, pediatric clinic, medical-surgical unit, and intensive care unit. These experiences provided a strong foundation in patient care and exposed me to a variety of medical conditions and clinical environments. I later pursued emergency medical services and have spent approximately 14 years in EMS. I am currently an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (IEMT) and an American Heart Association CPR instructor. My educational background includes extensive hands-on clinical training, professional certifications, and continuing education.
I have five years of experience as an adjunct EMS instructor, including serving as a lead EMT instructor, and nine years as a Field Training Officer. My teaching experience includes classroom instruction, small-group skills training, hands-on demonstrations, realistic patient scenarios, and individualized instruction. I believe effective teaching goes beyond memorizing information. My approach focuses on helping students understand why concepts matter and how to apply their knowledge in real situations. I adapt my teaching methods to individual learning styles, encourage questions, and use practical examples to simplify challenging material.
Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with students of varying ages, backgrounds, and experience levels, from individuals beginning their EMS education to experienced providers advancing their clinical skills. As a Field Training Officer, I provide one-on-one mentoring, constructive feedback, and guidance in critical thinking and clinical decision-making. My goal as an instructor and tutor is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, develop confidence in their abilities, and gain a genuine understanding of the material rather than simply memorizing answers.
