Hello, I’m Caleb! I hold graduate degrees in philosophy, religion, and theology, and I am currently working on a doctorate in writing at Drew University. As an aspiring writer and humanities scholar, my commitment to learning is centered on personal and academic development. By partnering with students, I seek to help them answer questions they never thought to ask before, so they can learn to make full use of their potential. My approach encourages students to become critical, careful learners who are ready to engage with complex topics.
Since there can be quite a distance between the experiences of many students and those of the authors we read in school, I find that engaging with the humanities sometimes requires giving special attention to meta-learning skills. We often need to focus on the fundamentals, like study habits, reading strategies, writing skills, and other important factors that facilitate successful learning. In other words, sometimes we need to go beyond the disciplinary content to learn “how to learn.” Whatever our primary focus will be, please rest assured that I take our time together seriously, and that I base sessions on organized lesson plans. Currently, the best way to meet with me is online; however, I am open to working with you in some other way, if necessary.
I tutored English as a Second Language students from 2016 to 2020. I worked with adults, in both one-on-one and classroom settings. I have some training in Adult Basic Education as well. My academic studies take me far and wide, in terms of ideas, readings, and methodologies, and I am well prepared to help guide you or your student through challenging subjects. I would appreciate the opportunity to hear more about how I can be of service to you. Please contact me with any questions you might have whenever it is convenient for you. I hope to hear from you soon!
