Greetings! I am glad that you are searching to have your son or daughter grow in their academic comprehension! You have come to the right place. I am in my 2nd year as an elementary PE teacher. I previously taught for 10 years as an English Language Teacher (EL) in Washington County, and have experience as a Math and Reading Interventionist within the Howard County Public School System. I also taught fourth grade in Washington County for one year. I spent two years abroad, teaching English in China and have a Master's in Reading Instruction from Frostburg University.

I teach summer science camps at Hagerstown Community College (Mad Scientist, Junkyard Art and Ninja Warrior).

I bring a lot of energy and creativity to my job. I enjoy assisting students in getting past the initial frustrations of learning, and assist the parents in bridging the school to home learning environment. I work on their confidence and developing strategies through metacognition.

ADHD

ADHD

I am a certified elementary teacher in the state of Maryland and have ADHD myself. I have taught in Maryland for 7 years. Consequently, I have had several students with ADD/ADHD. My wife is also a teacher (Spanish and Music), so together, we bring a wide area of knowledge to teacher. As a teacher, we are responsible for bringing our students to attention and evaluating those who demonstrate possible symptoms for this condition. We, of course, do not diagnose, but can refer students to their parents to get tested.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher in the state of Maryland with a Master's Degree in Reading. I currently teach EL (ESL - English Language Learners.) This means that I specialize in intervention techniques for language acquisition. I live and breathe phonics instruction, as well as differentiation and scaffolding techniques for struggling students. I enjoy making content accessible and helping students take ownership for their learning in order to succeed.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I began my ESL career, teaching English in China for two years. Since that time, I've been teaching ESL in Western Maryland. I am originally an elementary classroom teacher, so I approach language acquisition with both a content and and a language focus.

I have completed the Physical Education: Content and Design Praxis for Education, qualifying me for gym instruction. I am slated to take the Health Praxis in May as well to receive full certification. I am the "Wellness Ambassador" at my school, and have brought in Yoga instructors, as well as Fitness Instructors to my school. I was on the steering community for WCPS as we planned and held a large scale Wellness Fair last month. I continue to lead both staff and students in wellness and nutrition lifestyles. I coach Girls on the Run and participate and have won local races.
IELTS

IELTS

I taught English overseas for two years (2008 - 2010) at Hunan Business College, Changsha, China. I taught within the international college, where my primary purpose was to prepare Chinese college students for the IELTS, and future overseas studies. I taught in the classroom, and as a personal tutor for the BEC exam as well. I utilized a variety of practices and methods. I am currently an ESOL/ELL teacher as well, where I teach English to foreign language students.

I have passed both my Praxis I and Praxis II exams. The Praxis Ii was Elem Ed content pedagogy and exercises. I have since taken and completed the ESOL Praxis and the Physical Education: Content and Design Praxis (5095), as well as the Reading Specialist Praxis.

Religion

I am the current Missions Director at my local church. My wife and I served overseas in China for two years, working with numerous churches there. Prior to this, I successfully completed a Master's level course: Perspectives on the World Christian Movement--by Fuller Theological Seminary. I have taken a couple of ministry classes through our school of ministry class at our church as well. With my role as Missions Director and time overseas, I am frequently in contact with people serving in areas all over the world. This has brought both an appreciation and awareness of many religions and their cultures.

We are trying to coach my son how to respect and enjoy learning

Shane is doing a good job, by introducing math games where the student needs to earn the game by answering the correct mathematical questions. We recently took all video games (especially Fortnite) away and I am seeing my son being back to his old self, more interested in sports and online learning than when we allowed all of the xbox games.
