Hi! My name is Alex and I just received my PhD in Economics from West Virginia University. Ever since the beginning of my college career, I've had the explicit goal of getting a PhD in Economics and becoming a college professor. In the fall, I will be joining Berry College as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics and Data Analytics, teaching courses in statistics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and data analytics in R.

Helping students understand concepts fundamentally and improve their grades is the most rewarding feeling in the world. I love being able to use my knowledge to make people's lives easier, and to help them get more out of their education. I make sure no student, no matter how much trouble they're having grasping the material, feels judged or inadequate; I know that everyone learns at a different pace and I always enjoy tutoring no matter the comprehension level of the student.

I have over seven years of professional tutoring experience (and three years of college teaching experience), two of which were spent at the Learning Assistance and Resource Center of West Chester University. There, I went through three levels of College Reading and Learning Association Certification, and have been a "Master Certified Tutor" since December of 2017. I have thousands of hours of tutoring experience, about half of which is professional while the other half is freelance (such as on Wyzant). I've tutored learners as young as 12 and as old as 50.

As part of my fellowship in the PhD program at WVU, I had simultaneously taught multiple large in-person sections of Principles of Microeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Causal Inference in R (RStudio), and Applied Research Methods (the senior capstone course for economics majors). I have also published multiple papers in peer-reviewed academic journals.

Feel free to shoot me a message and I will get back to you in under an hour, but usually within a few minutes!

Microeconomics

I just received my PhD in Applied Microeconomics (Public, Health, and Urban Economics). I've taken both levels of graduate microeconomics (701 and 711) and passed my graduate microeconomics comprehensive exam on the first attempt. I have tutored and lectured undergraduate Microeconomics for seven years and have completed all coursework required in the fields of Advanced Health, Urban, and Public Economics. I have also been the instructor of record for large lecture sections of principles of microeconomics, have taught and designed intermediate microeconomics courses several times, and will be teaching microeconomics again in the Fall.

Data Science,

Data Science

I am a published researcher and data science enthusiast with experience teaching causal inference and data science techniques to graduate students. I am deeply familiar with the most up-to-date causal inference theory and methodology, with experience using synthetic control, dynamic difference-in-differences, propensity-score matching, instrumental variable approach, etc. I am skilled in R / RStudio. In the fall, I will be a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics and Data Analytics.
R

R

I am an Economics PhD who does all his research projects using modern causal inference and data science methods in R. I taught Applied Economic Research in Rstudio to senior economics majors. I use RStudio on a daily basis and co-taught a graduate-level Causal Inference class, where my primary responsibility was hosting RStudio help sessions for grad students (many of whom were working professionals) where I showed them how to perform complex statistical analysis methods such as: Synthetic Control, Difference-in-differences, Event Study, Matching, Instrumental Variable Approach, and Regression Discontinuity.

literal genius

I cannot begin to describe how amazing of a job Alex does, once I finish my course I fully intend to tell him to raise his rates because he's that good...so book soon!!!!!

Knowledgable and Understanding Tutor

Alexander helped me out with my Game Theory Course. He was knowledgable and understanding when I didn't understand the material I was trying to cover. Was very good at helping me understand the concepts and material of the course.

Alex, 3 lessons with Alexander

Fantastic

I've never used a programming language like R Studio before and Alex did a wonderful job at teaching me how to write/use the code, visualize data, explain that data, and so on. Only took us a few sessions for me to get a hang of it. Highly recommended.

Connor, 3 lessons with Alexander

very patient, very clear

Clear explanation of topics and willing to go over problems multiple times until I understood them. Made complicated concepts and problems very clear.

Daniel, 4 lessons with Alexander

Very knowledgeable and responds quickly!

Alexander identified and fixed a problem in my R code in 20 minutes that I had been laboring over for days. He responded to all of my emails immediately, and I plan to work with him going forward. A real asset!

Holly, 1 lesson with Alexander

Unflappable, super knowledgeable and patient tutor

Alex was very easy to work with, great communicator, and taught me everything I needed to know to create my Rstudio project. I would not hesitate to recommend him highly.

Kristine, 2 lessons with Alexander

This guy is brilliant!

We covered Non-Nash Outcomes, Trembling-Hand, and Mixed Strategies. I really like the recordings that come along with the session, so it's easy to review the material a few times.

Susan, 5 lessons with Alexander

Excellent tutor for upper division courses

I have received tutoring from Alexander in two upper division economics courses and his help has been invaluable to me. As a PhD candidate, Alexander has both strong knowledge of high level Econ courses and excellent teaching skills. I have found that he explains complicated concepts and mathematical operations in an easy to understand way. Having worked with other Econ tutors on my Macro Theory course prior to finding Alexander, I found it difficult to find one who knew this material well. I recommend those who need help with both introduction and upper division Econ courses work with Alexander, as he can assist you at any level with ease!

great teacher, extremely knowledgeable

There’s no words to describe how helpful his lesson was! It was only an hour and a half and it was so fruitful! He doesn’t just give you a lesson, but ensures you are moving at a healthy pace and also ensures you are grasping a proper understanding. Thank you so much for all the help!
