My name is Paula M., and I have had a passion for teaching for over twenty years. My students have included individuals from over 44 countries. I have taught every facet of the English language, but am also fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish. My name is Paula M., and I have had a passion for teaching for over twenty years. My students have included individuals from over 44 countries. I have taught every facet of the English language, but am also fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish. I have experience in teaching and tutoring students individually, in small groups, and larger classes over the years. My strongest skill is tutoring on the individual level. I tailor each lesson to the student, using my personal resources of over 250 books, games and manipulatives. Much time and effort is always put into each lesson to help the student reach his or her goal. In 1994, I implemented the English as a Second Language program in a West Virginia county, which is still in effect 20 years later. In 2013 I taught a specialized program to help 11-16 year olds pass. I achieved a a 99.5% success rate.

I am certified in English as a Second Language, which involved intense study of reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and study skills. I am also designated as a Highly Qualified Professional Teacher, a certification at the federal level. I use the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods of teaching to "crack the code" of the needs of the individual student. This identifies their strongest learning style, which maximizes the success of the student. My tutoring has been at the elementary, intermediate, secondary, and four year university levels.

I have been teaching and tutoring reading for over 20 years. My specialty is teaching the basics, reading to students to increase comprehension, and working on grammar and phonics. I have great success with students from kindergarten age up through high school. In the past five years my average reading level increases have been two years within 4 to 6 months.

I have been a license active realtor for 35 years. I have also talked basic real estate classes, and have sold over 500 houses. I have taught and tested students, including continuing education classes.

I have a B.S. in Spanish, and have taught Spanish at K-12, and university level for the past 20 years. I also have worked for a federal program to teach Spanish, and to assist in translation of formal paperwork. I have been a translator In three foreign countries for Rotary International.

I have taught special needs children for the past ten years by using behavioral techniques and coping skills. Students have included all spectrums of autism, hearing and vision impaired by my also using listening and hands-on skills such as simplifying passages, tests and reading to students.

I Have used many methods to teach spelling including phonics, graphic organizers, sorting and highlighting to teach spelling. Other skills used are spelling bees and syllable division.

As a teacher for over 20 years, I have specialized in helping students in organizational and study skills. In 2012-2013, I was given 75 failing Students mid-year. 74 passed by end of school year under my direction. I assist students K-12, and college in time management.

My students have ranged from age 3 to 95 and has come from over 38 countries. Skills taught include how to interview for jobs, dress appropriately, present the proper body language, and the use of correct wording when speaking. Students have ranged from no English knowledge up through advanced English speaking, reading, and writing.

I utilize one-on one and small group teaching of vocabulary to to increase reading levels. Methods used include teaching most commonly used words, synonyms, antonyms, and word groups. Use of words in sentence and story context has also been successful.

I have taught basic and advanced writing skills ranging from spelling, phonics, research, grammar, and organization. I have taught skills for successful writing and editing short and long term papers on a variety of subjects.

Giving my daughter a boost!

My daughter had become frustrated in her Reading/English class and I was seeing low test scores in her other classes. Turning to Wyzant to locate a tutor, we found Paula! Paula assisted my daughter in working on a book report as well as introduced her to new study skills to help in all classes. We are very pleased with the outcome of her sessions as my daughter's frustration has minimized greatly.

Excellent Tutor

We were apprehensive about a private tutor when it became obvious that our student needed one, as his Spanish II grade kept sinking. We needn't have been. Mrs. M. is fantastic! She has worked in the local school systems for a number of years, so she knows how to work with the teacher to get the needed results. She's great at working with us as a family to help our student. Only three lessons in, and his grade has improved by 6 points! Amazing! We have every confidence that Mrs. M. will not only help our student pass this class, but pass it with a better grade than we ever could have hoped for. If you're sitting on the fence as to whether or not to hire a tutor, do yourself a favor and have a chat with Mrs. M. You won't regret it.

I want you to know that Mrs. M is a excellent tutor for my son. Not only does he look forward to seeing her, her patience with him is just amazing. We feel like she is part of our "family".
