My experience with the Spanish language began when I was 9 years old with trips to Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico with my dad. Later, I graduated from West Virginia University, majoring in Spanish. I then went to Honduras as a Peace Corps Volunteer for two and a half years, and gained a higher level of fluency. I have attained an Advanced level in spoken Spanish after testing from the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). While attending graduate school (American University) in Washington, DC, I taught Spanish for five years at a bi-lingual public elementary school, (K, first and second grades). I have taught Spanish in the summers of 2010 and 2011 to area high school students with the Upward Bound program at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV. I am a strong believer in second language acquisition, and support the idea of learning foreign languages for anyone. Although I am not currently teaching Spanish, I continue using Spanish in my personal life and frequently travel to the Spanish speaking world.
