Hi, I'm Laura! I hold an MFA in English: Creative Writing and am currently completing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, where my research focuses on learner autonomy, motivation, and effective teaching methods. My academic background gives me a strong foundation in writing, literature, and composition at both the secondary and college levels.
I have over five years of teaching and tutoring experience across a range of settings. During my MFA, I taught college-level Rhetoric and Composition for two years, helping undergraduate students strengthen their academic writing, critical thinking, and revision skills. I’ve also worked with homeschool students ages 9-14 on grammar, reading, and writing, and I’ve tutored younger elementary students in reading while living abroad. These experiences have helped me learn how to adjust my approach based on each student’s age, needs, and goals.
My tutoring style focuses on clarity, structure, and building independence. I don’t just correct mistakes! I help students understand why something works or doesn’t so they can improve on their own. I break assignments into manageable steps and guide students through thesis development, organization, and revision. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel confident and see real progress in their writing.
