While I was getting my undergraduate degree in foreign language at the College of Central Florida, I began working for the college as a tutor in their federal workstudy program in my early twenties. I loved doing it; helping students get through difficult assignments that they struggled with and helping them understand the material, eventually getting them to that "aha!" moment is certainly something I live for. I even asked if I could continue being a tutor with the college after my graduation, but unfortunately, it was not possible. In lieu of that, I have worked independently as a tutor on an individual in person basis until 2018, where I was hired by Grade Potential Tutoring and have been working with until now. After covid I ended up moving to online tutoring, which I've been happy to do. I have worked with quite a range of students and general adults wanting to learn new things, even some students on the spectrum. I prefer to try to give the students as much control as is reasonable over how the lessons go while looking out for what learning style each student has. Always encouraging and guiding them until they find that "aha!" moment. It is absolutely the highlight of my day.
I have an Associate's degree in foreign language, and I began a Master's from Harvard in historical linguistics until Harvard had to remove their online program, so sadly, I could not finish due to financial difficulty. Nonetheless, I very much enjoyed the classes I did take: general linguistics, Latin and Ancient Greek. I have been self-studying Latin and Greek since around 2010 or so and have done very well for myself in regard to that. In 2019 I took a Latin course with the Ancient Language Institute, where my instructor and I had conversations about the texts we were reading almost entirely in Latin, and the instructor also used Greek to help me understand certain Latin words which were new to me. It was quite an amazing experience.
I'm very dedicated to making sure that every student learns at their pace with patience.
