I enjoy moving students from frustration and angst to confidence and triumph. Laughter plays a huge part in learning, so fun is a key element in my teaching style. I teach my students to tell stories in compelling ways. Witnessing thoughts morphing into words, then drafting to a page, and meeting the world via polished written or spoken words is exhilarating.
I'm skilled at helping students with all types of writing - college essays, entrance essays, scholarship applications, technical writing, resumes, creative writing, speech writing, and even message writing for the purposes of job search and networking. Conversational English, public speaking, and live business communication (presentations, negotiations, interviews) are topics that come naturally to me.
Writing students won't find a red-penned revision with harsh criticisms scrawled on a page. We'll discuss the pieces and how to make each element fit together with a purpose. We'll talk about repeatable patterns and structures that work but don't stifle creativity. Writing must bring thought to life with a variety of words, so I encourage expanding one's vocabulary daily.
My experiences as a speaker, online trainer, and podcaster allow me to help students bring a literal voice to their written works. My entertaining nature allows me to add small nuances that pack a large punch in presentations that would otherwise have audiences scrolling mindlessly.

While I have an MA in Composition and Rhetoric, my professional background (20+ years of life/career coaching combined with 10+ years resume work) is most helpful in guiding candidates as they explore and apply for career opportunities. My coaching style helps candidates to sift their experiences in order to glean the best of who they are. Together, we discover their transferrable skills that often open their eyes to possibilities that have been previously unexplored. From there, we highlight the candidate in writing. I've helped over 350 clients with crafting accomplishment-based resumes and/or LinkedIn profiles. I'm energized by working with clients to develop unique and authentic representations of themselves and what they may offer to any employer lucky enough to have them.

I have both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English (specifically in Rhetoric and Composition). I have enjoyed the power and freedom of written and spoken communication since I was a child. I have written formally for business purposes, have created marketing copy, short stories and speeches, and have helped over 350 clients craft their job search documentation. My most impressive qualification is that I have moved non-writers to be writing LOVERS.

I have spoken to large and small groups since I was 18. In that time I have written and presented on over 50 topics first in sales and corporate events, then as a life coach and motivational/educational speaker, and most recently online via digital courses, podcasts, and internet radio. I also have experience with both scripted and improv presentations given to passengers on holiday cruises.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Finding the right word is about painting pictures, composing verbal music, and even smelling and tasting the description on the page. The process involves an imperfect conversation with yourself or with others that explores a menu of what might fit. I ask many questions of my students that have them digging deeper than just a thesaurus page. We learn new words. We find new ways to use old ones. By the end, we can see each other's mental pictures and neither of us is at all bored. This is the point of well-stocked vocabulary.

I have a Master’s degree in Composition and Rhetoric. I enjoy working with others to efficiently and creatively communicate in various genres of writing - creative, academic, professional, marketing, expository, memoir, and even job search documentation. My decades of life coaching experience help to glean from my students the topics that they find worth exploring. When a subject ignites us, the writing flows with ease.
