Bio

Hi, I’m Shin, a UCLA Class of 2025 graduate with dual majors in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mathematics. I’ve been tutoring on Wyzant since 2020 with 700+ hours of experience, and I specialize in helping high school and college students build a clear, lasting understanding of calculus and higher-level math.

Hi, I’m Shin, a UCLA Class of 2025 graduate with dual majors in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mathematics. I’ve been tutoring on Wyzant since 2020 with 700+ hours of experience, and I specialize in helping high school and college students build a clear, lasting understanding of calculus and higher-level math.

Many students come to me feeling like they’ve been shown formulas and steps, but don’t really understand what’s going on. My goal is to fix that. I focus on breaking concepts down from first principles and guiding students step-by-step so that the material actually makes sense. Instead of just showing solutions, I ask questions and help you think through problems so you can handle them independently on exams.

I work with both students who feel stuck and want to rebuild their foundation, as well as students who are already doing well but want to push their understanding further. My approach is best suited for students who are willing to engage, think through problems, and aim for real understanding rather than just quick answers. If you’re looking for someone to simply provide solutions without explanation, I may not be the best fit, and that’s completely okay.

My academic background includes leading calculus review sessions through UCLA’s Tau Beta Pi (engineering honor society), earning perfect SAT Math scores (three times), and achieving 5s in both AP Calculus AB and BC. I also earned straight A’s in all of my high school and lower-division college math courses. Students often describe me as clear, structured, and adaptable, and many continue working with me across multiple courses because they gain both confidence and independence in problem-solving.

I keep my schedule limited so I can give each student focused attention. My goal is to help students move beyond just following steps and instead truly understand the concepts that tie calculus together, from limits and derivatives to multivariable applications. I scored 5s on both AP Calculus AB and BC, and earned straight As in all college calculus courses at UCLA. I Cannot Recommend Shin Enough!

Shin tutored me in AP Calculus BC throughout the school year. I have always struggled with math, and this was definitely one of the more challenging math classes that I have had to take. Shin explained to me the larger concepts that I couldn’t understand and always ensured that I had a complete grasp on the ideas we were reviewing. He was never just showing me how to do examples, and would actually take the time to review the core concepts, which really helped me succeed in class and get an A both semesters. He has a bright and bubbly personality and I always felt comfortable asking questions or getting the answer wrong because of the relaxed environment he cultivated. I cannot recommend Shin enough if you are looking for an amazing, positive math tutor who will really help you have a better understanding of the material!
