With a bachelor's degree in Psychology, specializing in social justice, and currently pursuing a master's in clinical mental health counseling, I have developed a deep understanding of students' complex social and emotional challenges. My academic background has equipped me with the theoretical knowledge to support students' well-being. At the same time, my specialization in social justice has fostered a strong commitment to addressing inequalities that may hinder their academic success. I am passionate about helping youth navigate these challenges, recognizing that their emotional and social well-being is closely linked to their academic performance.
During 2021-2022, I tutored middle and high school students at a Milwaukee homeless shelter, an experience that profoundly shaped my approach to education. Working with students in such a vulnerable situation required academic support, emotional understanding, and flexibility. I encountered students with unique learning challenges, ranging from ADHD to Autism, and tailored my tutoring methods to meet their individual needs. This hands-on experience taught me the importance of patience, creativity, and empathy in fostering a supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
In addition to my tutoring experience, I have served in care coordination roles, where I helped students gain access to critical community and mental health services. Many of the students I worked with were facing significant obstacles, including homelessness and mental health struggles, which impacted their ability to focus on academics. My role in care coordination allowed me to address these barriers, helping students stabilize their lives to better engage with their education. I am deeply committed to assisting students to succeed in all areas of their lives, understanding that academic achievement is often intertwined with personal well-being.
