I have been a strong supporter of continuing education for our employees whether through obtaining advanced degrees, certifications, attending seminar or events such as WNA’s Nurses Day at the Capital. I have also worked with our Clinical Education Coordinator to ensure we are a site of choice for clinical rotations for both undergraduate and graduate seeking degree nurses. I am a firm believer in lifelong learning as it critical for maintaining and elevating competency leading to better patient and personal outcomes. Tutoring would be another avenue for me to help strengthen understanding, boost confidence, and build upon important learning skills for those students embarking on new careers.
In my nursing career, I have worked primarily in a community hospital. This has provided me with a wide variety of nursing experiences. During my years as a staff nurse, I worked Med/Surg, ICU, ED, AODA, Geriatric Psychiatry, and PAR. I also worked with our Social Workers in the role of a Discharge Coordinator. In my current role as CNO, I am a member in a variety of associations which have afforded me a large networking and resource base of experts that have helped me advance my knowledge and skills. It has helped me stay on top of best practices and standards. Thus, helping to promote excellence in patient care in my organization. My memberships have also given me a more comprehensive understanding of health policy. Thereby, allowing me to be a more informed and stronger advocate for legislative decisions impacting nursing. I in turn share these important issues with my team.
