Hello, I'm Ben! I graduated from DePaul University in Chicago with a bachelors in Accounting and Management Information Systems and then eventually getting my CPA certification and license. While at school I noticed that the teachers who I learned from best would ask me questions on the subject, to properly gauge my learning style and current understanding of the topic. Then they would hone in on critical issues I was having difficulty understanding and try to use practical examples, especially on the more abstract items, bringing them into a more real-world context. My tutoring philosophy is built on this initial foundation of listening and then understanding before providing instruction. Still I also try to provide additional resources that students can use to understand concepts beyond their textbooks.
As a certified CPA with eight years of experience working with small-business clients, as well as in several private businesses, I have a lot of practical knowledge and experience working with people to help them solve accounting-related problems. I’ve also worked as part of the young professionals committee at the State CPA Association, which works with high school and college age students seeking careers in the accounting profession.
I hope to provide the students I work alongside with as solid an understanding of the topics as possible. So I’m open to any suggestions the students or their parents might have for other resources.
