I have a degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University and more than 20 years of professional experience applying mathematics, physics, and technical problem-solving in engineering, construction, design, and project management. My education and professional career have required extensive use of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and physics to understand and solve real-world technical problems.
I have regularly tutored and guided others through technical information, calculations, drawings, engineering concepts, and problem-solving processes. My approach is to break complicated problems into manageable steps, explain why each step works, and help the person develop a repeatable process rather than simply providing an answer. That same approach is the foundation of how I have tutored high school and college students over the past 20 years.
I work one-on-one with students in subjects including Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, and Physics. When possible, I ask students to send their homework, notes, study guides, or other course material before the lesson. I review the material in advance so our session can focus on the concepts and problems the student is struggling with. My goal is for students to leave a session understanding not only how to solve the problems in front of them, but why the methods work and how to apply them independently.
