Dear Students and Families,
My name is Joe, and I would love to help you discover the joy of learning! I graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and hold a Wisconsin teaching license for Grades 1-8. During my time at UW, I completed two practicum semesters, student teaching, and extensive coursework in science, mathematics, social studies, and literacy. I also continued to develop my Spanish-speaking skills. These experiences shaped me into a reflective, student-centered educator.
For the last four years, I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade mathematics at an urban school in my area. In my classroom, students work collaboratively, think critically, and develop the habits needed for success in higher-level math. My teaching is strongly influenced by "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics" by Dr. Peter Liljedahl, which emphasizes active learning, problem solving, and helping students build upon prior knowledge.
My goal is for every student to feel confident, capable, and curious about learning. I was fortunate to have teachers and mentors who supported me as a young learner, and I hope to provide that same guidance and encouragement to each student I tutor.
If you have any questions or would like to schedule your first (or next!) lesson, I would be happy to connect.
Sincerely,
Joe
