Dyslexia

I'm a certified Orton-Gillingham trained dyslexia tutor through the Children's Dyslexia Center of Milwaukee. I've worked with several students from first grade through middle school, including some with ADHD as well as dyslexia. In my private practice I use the Barton Reading and Spelling System, also Orton-Gillingham based.

English

Work as a writer and editor for a publishing company helped me hone my own writing skills and then years of experience teaching allowed me to share that knowledge and love of the English language with non-native speakers preparing for U.S. universities. I've got knowledge and experience teaching all aspects of English from reading and writing to grammar and phonics. I can also assist with proofreading and refining work you've already completed.

ESL/ESOL

Undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and TESOL certificate from UWM. Five+ years teaching and tutoring experience.

Phonics

As a Certified Academic Language Practitioner, I completed Orton-Gillingham training, which is the gold standard of methods for working with struggling readers. Phonics is one of the largest components of OG training. I use the Barton Reading and Spelling System in my private practice, which includes phonics, as well as reading fluency and comprehension.

Reading

Intense training and tutoring in Orton-Gillingham based reading instruction has given me a deep understanding of the requirements necessary to help struggling readers become proficient. I use phonemic awareness and phonics to expand a student's reading ability, then work on fluency, comprehension and spelling, as needed.

Writing

Work experience in writing and editing, as well as preparing non-native speakers for U.S. universities has given me a deep understanding of academic writing techniques. Beginning with brainstorming and ending with final edits, I've helped hundreds of students hone their writing skills in a multitude of essay styles.
