Hi,
I am a college-educated, well-spoken, experienced math tutor. I have been tutoring students in Math up to the undergraduate college level. I have my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and currently taking business classes. I have always had a love of math!
My specialties are algebra, pre-algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus and elementary/middle school arithmetic.
I typically try to first understand where the student is having problems grasping certain math concepts. I may do this through examples or reviewing past homework, class notes and if possible, tests. I prefer to review these works with the student so we discuss what the problem is asking for, their approach, where they got stuck and others ways to get the right answer or verify right answers.
Afterwards, I will work on brand new problem sets to ensure the student can apply these 'reviewed' concepts to fresh problems. I guide my students by asking them a series of 'why questions' so they develop a habit of verifying they are approaching the problem correctly and not just assuming their answer is correct because they got an answer. I wish for my students to use only necessary information to solve problems and not over complicate them especially on word problems.
Lastly, I do a quick review. If there are certain laws that must be memorized like Pythagorean law, we start there. If not, we do a quick 'walk thru' of how to solve potential problems.
I hope this helps you get a better feel for my tutoring style and methods. Of course, they vary in pace depending of the learning style of the students themselves. Each student is different but I firmly believe that every student is capable to doing well in Math!
I look forward to helping you or your student learn to love math as much as I do!
All the best!
