I'm a current college sophomore at Purdue University majoring in both Chemistry and Mathematics. I have around 4 years of tutoring experience, which began with my involvement in Students of STEM, a student-led 501c3 nonprofit organization. We worked to deliver high-level, personalized free STEM education in underprivileged communities and our outreach now extends across the country. For the past year I have worked privately with college students, tutoring Calculus courses as well as entry level college math. A majority of my tutoring experience comes from math and science course tutoring, mainly through middle and high school students, but I have worked with many elementary students in group settings to introduce high level math concepts and engineering design. My approach is flexible and reflects the needs of each student. Every single person who aims to learn something has a different way of doing it efficiently, so I spend a good amount of time gauging the best way to bring out a student's natural skills so that they are able to understand problem areas better. No matter the experience level, I believe that a student's foundation is the most important place to constantly work on. Much of my lessons will reaffirm foundational understanding and instill the skill of constantly sharpening their core knowledge and known techniques. Additionally, I like to be both guided with my lessons while also allowing enough space for the student to work through challenges on their own. There is no way to conquer the difficult topics without facing the challenges yourself.
