With over 18 years of experience in the classroom, I have taught a wide range of students from 7th and 8th graders to high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and even adult learners pursuing their GED. I specialize in Basic Math, Algebra, Geometry, and foundational Trigonometry concepts. I hold a BA in Sociology with a concentration in Liberal Arts, and while I don’t currently hold an active teaching license, I bring decades of real-world experience in education and one-on-one instruction.
Throughout my career, I’ve tutored students during weekly office hours, after-school study halls, and small-group interventions. My approach centers around building trust with students and helping them break through the fear and stigma often tied to math. I focus heavily on confidence-building and pacing — making sure each student truly understands the "why" before we move on. I use tools like my iPad and whiteboard, as well as custom presentations I create to visually support each concept.
One of my most effective strategies has been using visuals to break down abstract ideas. For example, when teaching integers, I’ve drawn a simple stick figure standing on a number line to help students visualize moving forward or backward through positive and negative numbers. I believe in meeting learners where they are and turning confusion into clarity — step by step.
