Hello. I'm Paul. Here are some details about my degrees: I have a doctorate in Educational Psychology, a Masters degree in the Learning Sciences, another Masters in Philosophy and a BA in Psychology. I have spent the past several decades as a college professor teaching a wide variety of psychology courses ranging from the research methods and statistics courses to physiological psychology to cognitive psychology. In that work I spent a lot of time helping students to understand how to read analytically, how to interpret research articles, statistics, graphs and charts, and how to organize and effectively write college-level papers. In all of my work I gave extensive individual feedback to move students to a better understanding of academic practices. I have taught courses on the science of learning focusing on the use of deliberate practice as well as an understanding of how the science of human memory guides best practices for studying.
I have taught students ranging from late high school (students who had early admission to college) through the end of their doctoral work, both as a classroom teacher and as a one-on-one consultant. My students have gone on to graduate work, post-docs, medical and law school, and a wide variety of professions. I hope I can help you to success as well.
My personal approach to tutoring centers on the recognition that learning happens not when material is presented to a student but rather when the student responds to that material. I will focus on understanding how YOU understand the material, and look carefully for any misunderstandings, and focus on identifying examples that will address those specific misunderstandings.

Statistics

I have graduate degrees from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Madison and extensive statistics coursework from each, all in departments of Educational Psychology (which is where statistics is often housed). I did a quantitative dissertation that included interrater reliability, Analysis of Variance with post-hoc tests and correlational statistics.
