I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Physics in 2013. Since, I have been a graduate student working towards a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Arizona specializing in Astronomy and Astrophysics. During my time in graduate school I have taught (both as a Teaching Assistant and Primary Instructor) Physics 1 (Mechanics), Physics 2 (Electricity & Magnetism), and Computational Physics each at the Algebra and Calculus level. My teaching style is learner-centric and I have employed active learning techniques to empower my students to learn.

I have spent two years tutoring college physics to University of Arizona students. I develop tutoring sessions based on the goals of the each student. Most tutoring lessons involve the student solving problems (whether they be homework, test prep, or example problems) while I provide oversight. If I see the student take a wrong turn or if the student is stuck, I will then ask directed questions to push the student in direction they need to succeed.

I am a Ph.D. student in Physics specializing in Astronomy and Astrophysics. During my time as a graduate student, I have acted as both a teaching assistant and the primary instructor for most physics classes. I also have experience developing learner-centered and active learning lesson plans for these courses.

Kind and very knowledgeable tutor!

I don't think I would've passed my last quarter of Algebra based Physics without Matthew's help! I went from failing the class to getting an A all thanks to his help. He was able to answer all the questions I had and explain things in great depth. He is very kind and works hard to make sure that you fully understand the material you are working on. His sessions far exceeded my expectations!

Best tutor I've had on this site

We've reviewed many topics in physics. Matt has enough knowledge to both fill in gaps or teach outright. He pays attention to (and understands) nuance in subject material that stumps other tutors.

Great tutor - Astronomy

Matthew took the time to explain the concepts well and was patient in showing the right way to solve the problems. Excelent communicator and would highly recommend.

Makes sure I’m solid on material

I have been working with Matthew through calculus and calculus 2. He always comes prepared to our sessions and knows the material. He’s willing to go over it multiple times/ways until I understand it, and he’s cleared up so much that I really didn’t have a grasp on.

Knowledgable & Very Responsive

My daughter liked the lesson in Calculus BC and has told me she will ask for help from Matthew again if she is stuck. Matthew was very responsive and answered all the questions that I asked about the process when I was first exploring the online tutoring option at Wyzant. This was my first exposure to online tutoring platform and i am impressed.

Very kind and patient tutor, knows his stuff

I liked matthew’s approach to various kinds of kinematic problems. I also liked that his explanations were very clear and he did not hesitate to explain anything that I was confused about. I highly recommend him for physics.

Amazing!

Matthew helped me with test taking strategies because that is what I struggle with and I have never seen someone explain it as well as he did while also having a great sense of humor.
