I am interested in supporting the learning of students in an upbeat and creative manner that best suits the needs of the individual. As a former AmeriCorps member I have hands on experience working successfully with a wide range of students in literacy and writing. As my year of service was in the Wausau Montessori Charter School (the upper-elementary classroom), I also have experience being creative with approaches to teaching/learning. Not only in the classroom, but in the two after school programs I created & ran throughout the school year for students interested in learning more about creative writing and about animals.
I have no intention of being a boring tutor. Instead I seek to help students enjoy literature and writing - topics I know tend to be tedious for many people for various reasons. I understand that each person has a particular way of learning, and I will work with both parents and students in order to find the best way to support the success of all involved.
This is backed up by my experiences as a blogger and self-published author of multiple novels, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Literature (with Honors). I feel I am well prepared to work with a student at any point in their education with their writing and/or literature classwork. During my undergraduate and graduate studies I also worked with fellow students to revise/edit substantial writing assignments, and participated in class discussions with students from diverse backgrounds. Often my classmates were not Literature majors, but fulfilling a Liberal Arts requirement. As I've already stated, I'm not interested in being a boring tutor who rehashes the same thing over and over when it clearly isn't making sense. Between my time with AmeriCorps and experiences with these classmates, I am confident that I will be able to find a way of presenting writing techniques and approaches to literary analysis (at any level) that will make sense and set the student up for further success in future.
I look forward to speaking with you soo
