I've led two guitar-fronted groups since '09, and attended M.A.T.C and Edgewood colleges for Music. Thanks to my formal education I can teach all aspects of general Music; rhythm, melody, harmony, aural skills, sight-reading, scales, and "counterpoint."
As a firmly established musician and bandleader, I hadn't even considered teaching until four years ago when I received an unexpected phone call to work as a teaching musician for the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium's after school program "Live Soundz on Saturday," at the Goodman Center. Our team helped kids 7-18 discover and explore Music through group discussion, one-on-one instruction, improvisation, and public performance. Then I got an opportunity to teach small group and one-on-one Guitar lessons at the Boys and Girls Club of Madison for another year.
Now for the past two years I've settled down at a percussion specialty store, where I teach Guitar, Bass, and Uke using the Hal Leonard Method books 1-3. This gives the student a cursory exposure to all key styles of Western Music. After the third book is completed, we will explore a specific style of your choosing.
