Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have a degree in history and am a licensed history educator. I am also an adjunct professor of history in an undergraduate university program.

Public Speaking

Part of my teaching load includes advising an academic club that engages in Mock Congressional Hearings, where public speaking is vital. We have advanced to the National Finals each of the last two years. I have also been a presenter at numerous local, state, regional, and national conferences and thus have a wide array of public speaking experience including keynote talks.

As a social studies teacher, I have specific training in teaching reading in the content area. Further, my masters degree in English included heavy emphasis on both reading and writing instruction while also training me in literary studies.

Study Skills

I have over a decade of experience as a public school teacher and have been tutoring and coaching within my community for much of that time. As part of my work as an academic adviser for different academic co-curriculars, a central aspect of my role is fostering the development of student organizational skills. Additionally, core to my teaching responsibilities have been facilitating an academic skills lab that includes a significant amount of study skills work. I also have a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through which I am trained in behavioral intervention strategies.

World History

I work full time as a history teacher in a local high school. I love bringing history to life and helping people find the significance in things past by finding contemporary applications of the historic ideas and events.
