Bio

If you want to write better essays for any class or understand what's going on better in your Philosophy courses, I'd like to help. I love writing, and I love helping people think through complex issues and communicate their ideas clearly. I'm a published author with four short stories in paying speculative fiction magazines, and I've also completed a university seminar specifically on teaching writing to undergraduates. So while writing instruction is something I'm qualified to do, it's also something I've genuinely pursued and enjoyed.

Yes, I have a lot of degrees: a B.A. in Philosophy and English, an M.A. in Philosophy, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. But what I'm most proud of is being recognized on the University of Illinois's "Incomplete List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students." That means more to me than the diplomas.

Over my graduate career I taught eight college courses, and was the teaching assistant for five more, covering writing, philosophy, ethics, logic, and critical reasoning. My style is conversational and Socratic. I'd much rather ask you a good question and help you find your own way to an insight than lecture at you. Whether we're untangling a thesis statement, strengthening an argument, or just figuring out what you're really trying to say, my goal is always to make the process feel welcoming. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Approved Subjects

Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I hold a B.A. in English and Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Philosophy, and I've published four short stories in paying speculative fiction magazines. This brings both academic rigor and real-world writing experience to every session. I taught college writing and critical reasoning courses for several years, and was recognized on the University of Illinois's "Incomplete List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students." My approach is conversational: I help students find clarity in their thinking first, because strong essays start with strong ideas.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

I've published four short stories in paying speculative fiction magazines, which means I've navigated the full process of drafting, revising, and surviving the competitive submission gauntlet. I hold a B.A. in English and Philosophy with a minor in Creative Writing, and I've spent years studying what makes fiction actually work at the sentence, scene, and structural level. My approach is collaborative and low-pressure: I meet writers where they are and help them develop their own voice rather than pushing them toward mine.
