If you want to write better essays for any class or understand what's going on better in your Philosophy courses, I'd like to help. If you want to write better essays for any class or understand what's going on better in your Philosophy courses, I'd like to help. I love writing, and I love helping people think through complex issues and communicate their ideas clearly. I'm a published author with four short stories in paying speculative fiction magazines, and I've also completed a university seminar specifically on teaching writing to undergraduates. So while writing instruction is something I'm qualified to do, it's also something I've genuinely pursued and enjoyed.
Yes, I have a lot of degrees: a B.A. in Philosophy and English, an M.A. in Philosophy, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. But what I'm most proud of is being recognized on the University of Illinois's "Incomplete List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students." That means more to me than the diplomas.
Over my graduate career I taught eight college courses, and was the teaching assistant for five more, covering writing, philosophy, ethics, logic, and critical reasoning. My style is conversational and Socratic. I'd much rather ask you a good question and help you find your own way to an insight than lecture at you. Whether we're untangling a thesis statement, strengthening an argument, or just figuring out what you're really trying to say, my goal is always to make the process feel welcoming. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
