Hello! My name is Suramya, and I’m an environmental and materials chemist with a passion for making science engaging and easy to understand. I hold a PhD in Nanotechnology and Materials Science from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and a BSc (Honours) in Chemistry from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. My research and teaching experience span over a decade across universities and laboratories, where I’ve guided students to build confidence and curiosity in chemistry.

Throughout my academic career as a university lecturer and senior faculty member, I have taught a wide range of chemistry and materials science courses—from introductory general and physical chemistry to advanced materials characterization and nanotechnology. I have designed and delivered both classroom and one-on-one sessions using outcome-based, learner-centered teaching methods. I enjoy helping students see the logic behind complex topics instead of memorizing facts. My students range from high school and college learners to early researchers preparing for advanced studies.

My approach to tutoring focuses on understanding each student’s background and pace, breaking down topics into manageable concepts, and using real-world examples to make lessons relevant and clear. I integrate technology and visual learning tools to strengthen conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills. Seeing a student’s “aha!” moment when everything clicks is the best part of my work. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, catching up on missed lessons, or aiming to improve your grades, I’ll help you master chemistry step by step with patience, structure, and encouragement.

Let’s make chemistry make sense together!

Chemistry

Chemistry

I hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry and have over six years of experience teaching and tutoring high school and university-level chemistry. My expertise covers general, physical, and materials chemistry, and I specialize in helping students build strong fundamentals, improve problem-solving skills, and develop confidence through clear, engaging lessons.
Environmental Science

Environmental Science

I hold a Ph.D. in Nanotechnology and Materials Science from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. My expertise lies in water and wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, and the development of advanced materials for pollutant removal, including PFAS and BPA. I have over six years of university-level teaching and research experience, integrating chemistry, environmental science, and materials science. I specialize in applying analytical and sustainable approaches to solve complex environmental challenges through practical, research-based learning.
Thermodynamics

Thermodynamics

I have a Ph.D. in Nanotechnology and Materials Science and over six years of experience teaching physical chemistry and thermodynamics at the university level. My background includes studying the thermal behavior of materials using techniques like DSC and TGA, and applying thermodynamic principles to energy transfer, phase changes, and material stability. I help students understand how heat, energy, and matter interact through clear explanations, visual examples, and real-life applications. My goal is to make thermodynamics engaging and easier to grasp for learners at all levels.
