I am a mechanical engineering educator with a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan and over 13 years of combined university teaching and tutoring experience. I spent three years as a professor at Milwaukee School of Engineering, where I developed curriculum and taught core mechanical engineering courses, working directly with hundreds of students through the most challenging parts of their undergraduate programs. My specialties are Engineering Dynamics, Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Machine Design, and Mechanical Systems and Controls. Feel free to reach out if you need help with another mechanical or aerospace engineering course.

My approach focuses on building problem-solving skills that hold up under exam conditions. Most students can follow along when an instructor works a problem, but freeze when they see a new one on their own. What I teach is how to identify the type of problem you're facing before you touch the math, because once you can recognize what's in front of you, the setup becomes clear. I help students develop the confidence and strategies to push through being stuck, a feeling they rarely practice on homework but encounter constantly on exams.

I work exclusively with college-level mechanical engineering students on core coursework. Sessions are focused, efficient, and built around your specific exam or assignment. If you're struggling with a course in your ME program and want to work with someone who has taught these subjects at the university level and knows exactly where students go wrong, I'd love to help.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and have extensive experience applying calculus in both engineering education and research. As a mechanical engineering professor, I taught calculus-intensive courses including dynamics, mechanics of materials, dynamic systems, aerodynamics, and vibrations. My teaching experience has given me a strong understanding of how calculus concepts connect to real engineering problems, particularly derivatives, integrals, multivariable calculus, and differential equations. I focus on helping students understand the underlying concepts and problem-solving process rather than simply memorizing formulas.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering with a research focus in vibrations, where differential equations are fundamental to modeling and analyzing dynamic systems. As a mechanical engineering professor, I taught dynamics, dynamic systems, vibrations, and aerodynamics, all of which rely extensively on differential equations. I have experience with first- and second-order differential equations, systems of equations, Laplace transforms, and their application to engineering problems. I focus on helping students understand both the solution methods and the physical or mathematical meaning behind them.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and have extensive experience applying linear algebra to engineering analysis and computational modeling. My industry experience included significant work in finite element analysis, where matrix methods and systems of equations are fundamental. During my PhD research in vibrations, I used MATLAB to develop a finite element model with custom elements, applying concepts including matrices, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors. As a former engineering professor, I bring both practical experience and a teaching-focused approach to helping students understand the concepts and problem-solving methods behind linear algebra.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I taught introduction to MATLAB for three years to freshman engineering students at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and integrated MATLAB programming throughout the mechanical engineering curriculum I developed. During my PhD in Aerospace Engineering, I used MATLAB extensively for complex simulations and data analysis for my research. I also applied MATLAB in industry for engineering analysis and problem-solving. My experience spans teaching MATLAB fundamentals to new programmers, advanced engineering applications, data visualization, and simulation development for both academic and professional projects.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering with heavy focus on mechanical systems and served as a mechanical engineering professor for 3 years at the college level. I have 12 years of teaching experience including 4 years as an undergraduate tutor, 5 years as a graduate teaching assistant, and 3 years as a professor, plus 3 years of industry mechanical engineering experience. I specialize in helping students develop systematic problem-solving approaches for statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, MATLAB programming, instrumentation, and vibrations analysis.
Physics

Physics

I hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and have 12 years of teaching experience, including three years as a mechanical engineering professor. I taught statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, vibrations, and aerodynamics, giving me extensive experience teaching the principles of mechanics and applying physics to real-world problems. My background includes forces and motion, energy and momentum, rotational dynamics, oscillations, and fluid mechanics. I focus on helping students understand the physical concepts behind the equations and develop a systematic approach to solving problems.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and have 12 years of teaching experience, including three years as a mechanical engineering professor. I taught courses including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, dynamic systems, aerodynamics, and vibrations, all of which build on a strong foundation in algebra, functions, and trigonometry. I am comfortable helping students strengthen these foundational skills and prepare for the transition into calculus. My teaching approach emphasizes understanding concepts and developing a clear, systematic process for solving problems.

Katie helped me prepare for the FE exam.

Katie and I worked on a broad number of engineering topics in preparation for me to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. It has been a challenge to prepare for this exam and Katie help me continue to persevere and finish my studies. She was able to help me understand key concepts and identify gaps in my knowledge in addition to helping implement specific test taking strategies that put me in the best possible position to pass my exam. Thanks Katie!

Thorough and Attentive

Katie was absolutely what I needed to prepare for my Spacecraft Attitude Dynamics exam. She was patient with me when struggling with the material and facilitated an environment where I was comfortable trying to solve the problems on my own with her guidance. This created a better foundation for my understanding of the concepts of the course which would have not been possible without Katie's amazing help. Highly, highly, highly recommend this amazing tutor.
