I am a K-4th grade emergency substitute teacher in the public school system. Prior to this, I tutored K-12th grade no-child-left-behind students and home schooled my own children for six years.
I love to help students who are having difficulties in grammar, writing, spelling, and language arts. Essay and report writing are my favorite subjects and I have recently been honing these skills by studying to be a grant writer. I prefer to write and design my own lesson plans, catered to the student's abilities and desires, using online or personal curriculum. I find that many students have not learned the basics, so are unable to move on effectively to more advanced concepts. For this reason, I begin my sessions by assessing the skill levels of the student, then work on building upon those skills, and eventually progress to putting all the concepts together. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in General Agriculture, so I have taken many science classes.
I am above-average in catching grammatical and spelling errors in written material.
I am an avid reader and above average in vocabulary. I love to do crossword puzzles, which always helps to improve vocabulary. I am also a speed reader; something I had to pick up in college in order to survive!
I am a very strong speller. I have a tendency to catch misspelled words in books, on reader boards and in paperwork.
I have an above-average ability in vocabulary. I love to do crossword puzzles and the vocabulary section in Reader's Digest. Much to my family's disgust, I'm almost always right!
I enjoy writing and grew up as an avid letter writer (when we actually used to write letters). I have always enjoyed writing short stories and essays, but prefer writing nonfiction to writing fiction. I love to write witty or comical stories.
