I was a substitute teacher in the public school system for over ten years. Following that, I substitute taught at a private, Christian school, and then taught a homeschool co-op group.

For the past three years I have been an online tutor, during which time my focus has primarily been on phonics and reading. Before beginning with any student, I give assessments that focus on phonics knowledge, phonics spelling, reading, vocabulary, sight words, and writing. Which assessments, and how many, depend upon the parents' wishes and the feedback they are receiving from teachers. My main focus is on phonics using the model of the University of Florida Literary Institute. The order of phonics presented there has given my past students the best results in reading ability and fluency. My goal is to help my students become strong, independent readers, rather than focusing on helping them pass tests at school. Once they are strong, independent readers, their success in school tests will come as a result. During my sessions, and depending upon the student's needs, I will bring in sight words, phonics concepts beginning at the point where they are struggling, spelling, writing, reading, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. Each of my sessions is tailored to the individual student, and I always end at least one of the weekly sessions with a game that reviews the current concept(s). I focus on K-6th grade struggling readers, but I do have some 7th and 8th grade students as well. I would love to help your struggling student become a confident, fluent reader!

I am a very fast and avid reader. I am good at speed-reading and am very good at finding grammatical, spelling, and vocabulary mistakes in written material.

My grammar skills are very strong. I have a knack for finding grammatical errors in material that I am reading.

Homeschool

For over five years, I homeschooled my two children, and then became a full-time substitute teacher in both private and public school settings. I have an extensive 12-years of teaching experience, particularly with K-5th grade students, and am well-qualified to help students in phonics, reading, vocabulary, spelling, language arts, and writing. I currently work as an online tutor on another platform, so am comfortable and experienced in tutoring online.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I am above-average in catching grammatical and spelling errors in written material.
Reading

Reading

I have over ten years experience in private and public school classrooms, teaching K-5th grade students. For the last three years, I have been a reading and phonics tutor on another online platform and have performed very well; I am one of the top-twenty tutors for children with learning difficulties and those in need of reading and phonics instruction. Though I do not have formal training, I have taught myself through extensive research and hands-on experience. I follow the phonics program developed by the University of Florida Literary Institute and it has worked very well for me and my students.
Spelling

Spelling

I am a current reading tutor on another online platform. With the majority of my students, I focus on chunks of instruction in different areas: phonics, spelling using phonics concepts, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading skills.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I am a current tutor on another online platform, and am one of the top-twenty tutors listed for children with difficulties, who are in need of spelling, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, or ELA help.
Writing

Writing

I enjoy writing and grew up as an avid letter writer (when we actually used to write letters). I have always enjoyed writing short stories and essays, but prefer writing nonfiction to writing fiction. I love to write witty or comical stories.
