I like teaching, which is why I continue long after my peers have retired. As a retired public-school teacher and university professor I have many years of teaching a variety of students. I know how to motivate learners to do their best. During my public-school career I taught art, technology, reading and writing.
Similarly, as a professor my efforts and doctorate focused on the learner in online environments much like WyZant. Recently, I returned from a year of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in Thailand to both adults and children; it was an incredible experience learning new teaching techniques and earning my TEFL. I continue to teach because I am passionate about helping others meet their learning goals.
I have over a dozen years teaching in elementary schools and more than two years teaching basic literacy online as a tutor.
I worked for one year teaching English as a Second Language in Thailand to both children and adults. Currently, I work as a tutor teaching test preparation skills for tests such as: IELTS, SAT, ACT, SSAT, OLSAT. During my 40 plus years as a teacher, I integrated English, reading and grammar skills into all my lessons.
Each student has a unique lens through which they view learning. I work with students to determine how best to improve their literacy. I believe students want their assignments to have application immediately to their life, therefore, I use authentic learning activities.
