10 years experience in photography. 5+ years as a professional photographer. I have tutored students from ages 10 and up. I have instructed groups and privately on photography basics as well as basics of photo editing and the workflow process with digital photography. I start with a little bit of technical instruction using diagrams and then move on to practical instruction. I feel that the best way to help students learn photography is to teach students the basics and then setup exercises to help students practice doing the settings for themselves on their own digital cameras.
I like to break instruction down into category's of photography. Starting with landscape/cityscape to cover a little bit of lighting and composition as well as some technical camera settings such as Aperture Priority/Manual mode. I also like to emphasize motion, whether freezing it or showing some of it. Teaching motion allows me to cover other technical aspects like Shutter Priority/Manual modes on the cameras and learning how to get your desired results within that. Another area is portraiture which allows us to touch on a little bit of technical camera settings and a little on lighting whether it be natural/artificial light. I will cover speedlights and reflectors briefly just to give a feel for them. And finally for those who have the patience for it I can also offer instruction on night photography. I go over the different areas in detail and make sure students are not left misunderstanding the information.
