Hi!

I am an experienced math tutor for college and high school subjects, and a certified high school math teacher, tutoring professionally since 2011! I have experience teaching full-time at a school for students with learning differences for over two years, and have tutored everything from struggling Algebra 1 students to advanced students in college Calculus. As a teacher, nothing is more rewarding than helping a determined student achieve their desired goal, whether that is to master an entire subject, or simply prepare themselves for the next big test. I'd like to help you achieve your math goals!

I teach multiple solutions to a problem, and help my students understand why a solution actually works. Understanding a process, rather than memorizing a set of steps, means the learning is more easily remembered for later use, and far easier to apply to different situations throughout life, both in school and out.

For students who need emergency test prep, however, I have a myriad of quick tricks and reliable always-work solutions to offer to any student in a hurry!

My experience includes five years of teaching experience, tutoring professionally since 2011, and volunteer tutoring for as long as I can remember. I know I can help you!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is one of my favorite subjects to teach! While many "higher maths" are rarely useful to anyone not going into a career in science, Algebra 1 is useful to anyone who wants to manage their own finances, stay informed by following news articles, or efficiently make their way through any number of real life situations! Algebra 1 can also be a big step for a student, as it steps away from elementary arithmetic and introduces lots of new concepts and multi-step solutions. I focus on teaching why a solution works, and finding a solution my student can really understand, so my student can more easily remember it, recreate it, and use it in other problems in their continuing education! My goal is to help you reach your goals, not to give you more work! Therefore, I match my lessons to your needs - What are you learning in class? What do you need to review from earlier classes? I individualize my lessons to suit your needs!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a great subject, and a great way to step into higher math! However, it can be fast-paced, and student can easily fall behind. I can help you keep and and get ahead in Algebra 2! I focus on teaching why a solution works, and finding a solution my student can really understand. This way, my student can more easily remember it, recreate it, and apply it in other problems in their continuing education! My goal is to help you reach your goals, not to give you more work! Therefore, I match my lessons to your needs - What are you learning in class? What do you need to review from earlier classes? I individualize my lessons to suit your needs!
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus! While some people enjoy the class, or at least don't struggle much, others panic at the mere name! If that's you, or if you've just fallen behind and need a little help, I can help you! Calculus is where I really got my start volunteer tutoring, helping friends and classmates get through the class in college. Where does the dx go when you integrate? How do you know what to do when you're shown a string of symbols and told to "solve"? What do these problems and solutions mean? I can help you with these and so many other calculus questions! Whether you need an in-depth understanding to get you through a whole class and beyond, or a quick review for a test, I can help! I focus on what you need to learn most, including reviewing material from past classes as needed.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is a great subject! It can be difficult for students to get used to connecting abstract information on a page to two or three dimensional shapes, and to use math to connect the two. But it's such a valuable skill to develop! Being able to think mathmatically and precisely about shapes will be a valuable tool for all future math endeavors! Geometry is a big jump for many students, and a new way of thinking. I know I can help you reach a solid understanding of the concepts and methods involved! With practice and step by step discussions, you can lay a foundation that will help you far beyond a single Geometry class!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra can be fun! It can be a little confusing when math suddenly has more steps and concepts than the years before, but what you learn in pre-Algebra will lead into higher math. A solid grasp of pre-Algebra can change your entire academic life! In pre-Algebra, understanding WHY a solution works is very important. An in-depth understanding of solutions makes them much easier to understand and apply to other types of problems. That's why I focus on helping my students not only learn HOW to solve a problem, but on finding a solution that makes sense to them, and helping them understand WHY that solution works! Pre-Algebra is a vital base for the math classes that will follow it. I know I can help you truly understand this material, so you have a solid foundation to continue your math education!
Precalculus

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus can be a broad subject, including advanced algebra, real and complex numbers, vectors, trigonometry, and of course, the beginnings of calculus. It's an important foundation to have for higher math! To really make use of this subject, you need to understand not only how to solve a problem, but why that solution works. I focus on teaching WHY! This not only makes the solution easier to remember; it will also make it much easier to apply to different problems! An in-depth understanding of this subject will help you in your continued math education. I know I can help you achieve your math goals!
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry can be a difficult subject at first, as it's a big change from Algebra and Precal! However, I've helped students, both struggling and advanced, get the hang of Trigonometry for over ten years. Whether you're trying to gain a more advanced understanding of the material, or just make it through the class, I'm confident I can help you reach your goals!

The BEST calculus tutor -- don't try anyone else!

I cannot say enough great things about Cheryl. In 2.5 months with Cheryl, my daughter went from struggling with a low grade in community college calculus, to an A as a final grade. Not only did the grade go up, but my daughter rediscovered her interest in continuing in higher math courses. Cheryl was always on time, and very professional. She was able to teach even the most difficult concepts/problem solutions, and give tips for handling the teacher's hard testing style. The teacher was astonished when my daughter began to hand in tests early and ace them. (So was my daughter!) Cheryl, you are awesome! Life Saver!!

My daughter had a great first session with Cheryl - clearly explained in half the session what her teacher hadn’t conveyed clearly in 3 days, and then moved onto the upcoming unit
