Hello! My name is Rory. I graduated summa cum laude from Washington State University in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in English, with a focus on rhetoric and professional writing. But I enjoy writing in many styles. My areas of expertise are in writing academic essays, speeches, editing and proofreading, professional writing, and rhetorical studies. I also have a strong background in literary studies as well as literary analysis. I returned to college after a long break in 2019, wanting to earn a degree and hoping that as an adult I would find a greater fulfillment in the university setting. Good news! I was right! It did not take long for me to fall in love with writing. I was fortunate to have many amazing professors throughout my college career, who never ceased to be patient with me, as they helped me to believe in myself, while at the same time challenging me to write at a skill level I never dreamed possible.
My tutoring philosophy is to impart this same gift to my own students. I will work to identify what each student needs and do what I can to to help them to help themselves, by engaging them in meaningful ways and helping them to have an appreciation for the written word. I hope to inspire my students to find their own voice, as they write anything from formal speeches to academic essays. Yes, I truly enjoy writing both! And I would like to help you do the same.
My first experience teaching came from teaching private violin lessons many years ago. This was fun for me, because I was able to see how valuable a one-on-one relationship between student and teacher can be. It really is a great way to make a big impact on a student's learning. Since I graduated from college, I have been homeschooling my middle-school-aged son, which has helped me to again see that value, but this time in a wide array of subjects. I feel that these experiences have shown me that I would thrive in the field of tutoring, and I could not be more excited to begin this journey. I look forward to working with you!
