Hello and welcome! I’m Mrs. D, a certified 4th-grade teacher with a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and more than fifteen years of classroom experience. I began teaching in 2006 with a lively class of 3rd graders and quickly discovered how rewarding it is to help children build confidence through understanding. After stepping away from full-time teaching for several years to raise my three children, I returned to the classroom in 2013 and have taught full time since 2015. These years have given me the privilege of working with a wide range of learners—from early readers finding their voice to upper-elementary students mastering fractions and essay writing.

My educational background includes a B.A. in Special Education with a minor in Elementary Education, and I hold a Washington State K-8 Teaching Certificate. Although this is my first year tutoring through Wyzant, I have spent countless hours providing individualized instruction in small-group and one-on-one classroom settings. My tutoring style blends structure with encouragement. I use hands-on materials, visuals, and real-world examples to make lessons meaningful, and I adjust pacing and strategies to each child’s needs so they can experience steady progress and genuine success.

Parents often tell me they appreciate my warmth, organization, and clear communication. I believe children learn best when they feel supported and proud of their effort. In Mrs. Drake’s Learning Lab, every session is a partnership built on patience, consistency, and joy in learning. If you’re looking for a caring, qualified educator who will meet your child exactly where they are and help them move forward with confidence, I’d love to connect and create a plan that helps your child shine.

Common Core

I have over fifteen years of experience teaching in Washington State public schools, where the Common Core Standards guide every lesson I design. As a certified 4th-grade teacher with a Master’s in Early Childhood Education, I help students connect these standards to meaningful, real-world learning. My approach breaks complex concepts into clear, age-appropriate steps using visuals, hands-on practice, and ongoing feedback. Whether reinforcing foundational skills or extending advanced learners, I help each student build confidence and mastery across all Common Core areas.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have more than fifteen years of classroom experience teaching elementary students in grades 3 through 5 and currently teach 4th grade full time. My Master’s in Early Childhood Education and K–8 certification allow me to design lessons that support every learner’s academic and developmental needs. I focus on strengthening reading, writing, and math skills while helping students build confidence, organization, and curiosity about learning. My goal is to make each child feel capable and proud of their progress as they master essential K–6 foundations.
