My first noteworthy teaching experiences were in college, where I found myself regularly helping my peers with schoolwork. Within the physics program, it usually meant thinking about the problem from a different perspective to get someone un-stuck. I also helped peers focusing on less technical subjects with algebra and trigonometry, often tackling an underlying misconception that wasn't obviously related to the problem at hand. Other times I proofread essays for peers at all levels of writing proficiency, because sometimes another set of eyes is all you really need. Since college I've always been good at training new employees at work, and I've taught my friends a few skills related to our hobbies.

From middle school and beyond I was tracked into the "fast-paced" math program based on an SAT exam in 6th grade. However, I never found math to be easy, and I struggled with these classes more than any other. Despite the challenges, I faced, my interest in physics and computers forced me to press forward, completing calculus in my junior year of high school and getting a 35 on the math ACT. Later in college I would learn more calculus and differential equations, soon afterwards applying that knowledge to solve physics problems. I still regularly use algebra and trigonometry to help answer questions for myself and others in my daily life, and while it's easy to me now I still remember when it wasn't.

Let me know if you think I could help you or your child learn. My profile lists a few specific subjects, but it's not an exhaustive list, so don't be afraid to contact me about related subjects.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I use algebra on a daily basis to program computer games with realistic motion and physics. In school, I was placed two years ahead of most students based on my 6th grade SAT score, completing calculus in my junior year. In college, I completed two additional calculus courses and a very challenging class in differential equations, all of which required good understanding of algebra. While I struggled with many of these math classes, I would go on to use algebra, calculus, and differential equations to solve many problems in physics at school and engineering at work.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I took 2 years of chemistry classes in high school and did well in my exams including the AP chemistry test. In college I studied physics, which did not include chemistry classes, but frequently required good understanding of chemistry. Since then I've maintained a casual interest in chemistry as it relates my many questions about the world we live in.
Computer Gaming

Computer Gaming

I've been playing PC games for about 35 years, and I've been programming them for 4 years. I mostly work with HTML / Javascript to make webgames, but have programmed in other languages as well (mostly python).
