As a math major, I provided tutoring to classmates in the full range of math subjects. Following graduation I put my math and physics to practical use in military aviation. As a math major, I provided tutoring to classmates in the full range of math subjects. Following graduation I put my math and physics to practical use in military aviation. For the last five years I have been instructing a range of aviation topics, including both classroom and hands-on contexts. All of this has involved instructing math and physics.

I enjoy seeing a student grasp a new concept. I have found that every student learns differently. When an approach that works with one student doesn't work with the next, it is necessary to patiently present the concept differently until an approach works.

I am capable of tutoring almost any math subject, as well as several science subjects. However, I especially enjoy tutoring algebra, as I have found that most students who struggle with higher math are lacking a good foundation in algebra. If I can help you learn algebra well, it will prepare you to succeed in more advanced math and science classes.

I'm available nights and weekends. I look forward to hearing from you.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I earned a B.S. in mathematics. Algebra 1 is foundational to all higher math. While tutoring algebra, I will pass on techniques and habit patterns that will be useful throughout your math studies.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra is fundamental to all follow-on mathematics. As a math major, I continued to apply algebra in other subjects throughout college. If I tutor you in algebra, I will also pass on techniques that will set you up for success in all higher math.
Calculus,

Calculus

After taking calculus at both high school and college level, I continued to tutor calculus all the way through college. I have also taken the follow-on courses of differential equations, real analysis, and complex analysis, which often provide useful background to be able to explain calculus concepts. Some calculus courses include some of these advanced topics. I am experienced at explaining every aspect of calculus to students who are struggling.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

While my major was math, not chemistry, there is a lot of math in chemistry. As such, I did well in chemistry at both high school and college level. I spent many hours helping my classmates with chemistry throughout college, so I have a good handle on explaining the complex concepts of chemistry in simple terms.
Geometry,

Geometry

As a math major, geometry has been integral to everything I've done. I've also applied geometry in a variety of aviation applications, so I can connect with real world usage. If you are struggling with a concept, I can break it down into simpler concepts or show how the concept applies in a different context.
Physics,

Physics

I was a math major, not a physics major, but physics is mostly applied mathematics. Throughout college, I helped classmates with physics, so I have experience explaining complex physics concepts in simple terms. I also have the calculus background to help those taking physics courses that include applied calculus. I look forward to helping you succeed in physics.

Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

In addition to taking the Discrete Math course, I also took related courses in Abstract Algebra, Number Theory, Cryptology, and Combinatorics. This provides me additional depth on the range of topics in Discrete Math. As a senior project, I applied my number theory knowledge by researching, determining runtime, and formulating proofs of key principles for a factorization algorithm. As such, I specialize in number theory, but I look forward to helping you with all of the topics in Discrete Math.

Trigonometry,

Trigonometry

Believe it or not, trigonometry is really useful in the real world if you know how to use it. You'll use this in most of your other math courses as well as in practical applications if you learn it well enough. I have applied trigonometry throughout my college courses as well as in aviation, home renovation projects, and hobbies. I look forward to helping you succeed in trigonometry.

Very Patient and Thorough

Stephen was extremely helpful and thorough. He was very patient and helped break things down for me. As someone with dyslexia it is often very difficult to receive tutoring from someone who is helpful and understanding. He didn’t try to rush me through questions or get frustrated. Will definitely request Stephen’s help through the rest of the semester.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Very knowledgeable and supportive tutor. Went over every problem and answered my questions efficiently. Would recommend to anyone seeking assistance in math.

Clear and patient

Great experience! I will definitely use this tutor again in the future with my statistics and nursing math. He was clear and even showed me other ways to get the answer.

Very clear and patient

Discrete math tutoring session. Able to jump from one topic to the next in my notes without any issues. Great tutor and would highly recommend. Need to stretch out my review (although he was seriously really great) to hit 160 words apparently.

He was knowledgeable

He taught my son discrete math. My son was very happy. He said very high about him, he explained problems in a very easy way. I am glad it worked out perfectly.

Mid-chaos clean-up

Many tutors can start at the beginning and show how “they” would do it. But Steve was able to jump into the middle of my circular motion extra credit excel sheet craziness, listen to me, talk me through the logic simply and help me clean up my formulas. Thanks, Steve!

Great Teacher

Stephen really helped me grasp geometry concepts and he goes through many problems in one session, which is helpful so we get a lot done. He is also patient with how he explains things and is a nice tutor overall.

Shweta, 8 lessons with Stephen

Very patient

Dude rocks!! 20 minutes later and I knew how to do my assignment. Will definitely be getting help from him more.

Nick, 1 lesson with Stephen

Very patient

Stephen M. explains problems very well. When I am confused about how to do something or do not know what is going on, he explains the problem in a way that makes sense and is very patient.
