Bio

I have over 20 years of experience as a full-time, Washington state certified continuing teacher and over 8 years of experience tutoring students. I have tutored students in a variety of subject areas, but usually specialize in all levels of math and reading development. Students in the past have ranged from 5 to 53 years of age, and I am currently working with 7 different students, two of whom have special needs. I have over 20 years of experience as a full-time, Washington state certified continuing teacher and over 8 years of experience tutoring students. I have tutored students in a variety of subject areas, but usually specialize in all levels of math and reading development. Students in the past have ranged from 5 to 53 years of age, and I am currently working with 7 different students, two of whom have special needs. I am very versatile and adapt to whatever each particular student requires.

My tutoring methods vary as students vary. Each student requires a unique approach, and I carefully cultivate methods for each pupil to ensure their success. I have worked with a variety of students ranging from those with learning disabilities all the way to brilliant students seeking a challenge. Simply put, I love to teach and I thoroughly enjoy the one-on-one interaction tutoring provides.

With degrees in Elementary Education, Special Education, and a masters degree in Mathematics, I have the skills and knowledge to instruct students on a variety of subjects. Tutoring is not just about success in the classroom but rather about working with the individual to grow and acquire new skills. I view my goal as a tutor is to put myself out of a job by teaching students the skills for success in their given subject.

I hold a bachelors degree in special education. I taught many students with ADD/ADHD in both special education classrooms and regular education classrooms. I am currently tutoring two students with ADD/ADHD and have kept current on the literature regarding these disorders.

I have taught all math areas at the middle and high school level for 22 years, and have tutored students for quite awhile as well, including in Algebra 1. Washington State teaching certification, Masters degree in Mathematics Education.

I currently hold a rating of 1680. I have taught the basics of chess within a public school classroom as an extra curricular course. I have taught the basics of chess including opening moves and basic strategy to individuals as well. I have competed in numerous USCF tournaments.

I have aligned curriculum designed for teaching common core standards in math and science. I have formatively assessed students in the classroom using common core standards and have proctored both elementary and high school state tests. I have collaborated with other certified teachers in order to align curriculum with Washington state common core standards.

I hold a bachelor's degree in special education. I taught many students with dyslexia in both special education classrooms and regular education classrooms. I am currently tutoring two students with dyslexia and have kept current on the literature regarding this disorder and methods to better help students with dyslexia.

I have a Washington state continuing certificate and am endorsed to teach any subject K-8. I taught 6th grades students math, science, and p.e. for 7 years. I have taught mathematical model building, matrix algebra, linear programming, probability, and statistics at the high school level. I have tutored various 5 - 9 year old students in handwriting using the "Handwriting Without Tears" curriculum. I used similar curriculum with special needs students with fine motor skill deficits in public schools. I have kept current on literature (articles) concerning the methodology of handwriting and its importance in today's society.

I have taught reading incorporating phonetics for more than 10 years in a public school setting. Part of my B.A. in education involved learning methodology of teaching phonetics. I regularly incorporate phonics during tutoring sessions that involve learning how to read.

I am have been highly qualified to teach middle school pre-algebra since 2003 in the state of Washington. I have taken many graduate level classes concerning math methodology and delivery of math instruction to students. I have over 18 years of first hand experience teaching pre-algebra concepts to students as a full-time contracted teacher in the state of Washington.
