About Ryan

I am an experienced math tutor for a local company here in Spokane. I tutor all grades, k-12, I have a passion for math and a patient demeanor which helps the learning process. I have helped many students pass the SATs, GREs and many classes which the student had little understanding of the subject to begin with.

Testimonials:

"I'm 23 years old, married, and have an almost 3 year old daughter. Before I had my daughter I always wanted to be an Elementary teacher, but felt like I wasn't qualified for the job, let alone the degree because I didn't feel like I understood the math. After I had my daughter I realized that I wanted what was best for her, me, and to set a good example towards her future. I wanted her to learn that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Because of that realization I turned to help and found Ryan.

At first I was hesitant because I thought I wasn't good at math because no matter how great I did on assignments I never seemed to do good when it came to the test. Because of Ryan that thinking has changed. Ryan was able to evaluate me and help me on my weaknesses as well as build on my strengths. When I didn't understand how to solve a problem he didn't just stop at explaining it once and move on to something else. Instead he blew me away with how committed he was to me by explaining the math process in different ways until I was able to understand it. Its because of him I understand math, like math, and have confidence in myself that I never had before. Thanks to Ryan I passed my math entrance exam and am on my way to becoming a teacher.

I hope as a teacher I can use the skills, knowledge, and patience Ryan showed me and pass it on to my future students as well as my daughter. I know that if my daughter, friend, co-worker, or family member was ever struggling in math or felt like he or she wasn't being challenged enough I would have Ryan tutor them. I've been to countless tutoring centers for years, but never had the success I am having now. Thank you Ryan for giving me the confidence in math that I have been searching for years. Because of you I know that anything is possible if I put my mind to it. Thank you!"

"I am writing this to express Ryan’s exceptional tutoring abilities as seen by his interaction with my two older children, ages 9 and 12. He has spent the last 10 months tutoring them in math.

His creativity, intelligence, and ingenuity made a dramatic difference on how my kids perceive school work and math. Before tutoring, my kids were unable to do math or school work at all without extreme distress and anxiety and it would take them hours to complete it. Gradually, they were able to take the initiative and do their work without prompting, complete it within a short period of time with no complaining, and had no anguish associated with it.

Ryan has great communication skills and interacts effectively with kids. He is able to make kids feel completely at ease as if they have known him all their lives. He expresses himself clearly and makes math easy to understand using practical examples that kids can relate to while having a sense of humor and making it fun.

If the need arises where any of my four children need a tutor, I would choose Ryan without hesitation. His honesty, reliability, and thoughtfulness aid him in being a successful tutor. He takes the initiative to go the extra mile to make my kids feel special and utilizes his imagination to instruct with a positive attitude which helps result in peak performance."

As a junior in high school my daughter was struggling with her Algebra math class. The teacher wasn't able to communicate to her so she could understand the mathematical process. She struggled through this math class until the Christmas break. It was then I decided it was time to find a math tutor who could communicate so she could understand. That's when I found Ryan. Ryan was able to meet with her on a weekly basis and get her back on track. Ryan is a quiet person who calmly and methodically reviews the process, reviewing each step until she is able to grasp the concept and then move on to the next step.

My daughter went from feeling totally frustrated with her math class and nearly having a failing grade at Christmas time to ending the school year with a C+. If we hadn't found Ryan as a math tutor she may have had to retake the class during summer school or her senior year.

Ryan is reliable and flexible in his schedule. Even when his car needed major repair and didn't run anymore, he took the city bus and walked to our house from the bus stop. In my eyes, that shows dedication on his part both to the student and to the responsibility of being a tutor.

This academic year Ryan is tutoring my daughter with her high school physics class and with Ryan's guidance I know she will have a positive experience and be a successful student!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have taken many math courses including math 96, 99, and 141-142 at Spokane Community College. I have worked in the tutoring lab at the community college, helping students in all levels of math, for the last two years. I really enjoy math and make it very understandable and relatable to students.

Calculus

I have studied and passed courses up through advanced calculus at Gonzaga. I have been tutoring courses up through calculus 3 at Spokane Community College for two years. I have a full understanding of limits, derivatives, integrals, integrals upon rotation around axes, and differential equations among other subjects.
