Hello! My name is Roger, and I’m a native Mandarin speaker with over six years of tutoring experience and three years of formal Chinese teaching. I hold a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA-TESOL) and I also coordinate and teach in community-based Chinese language programs. My lessons are grounded in both linguistic knowledge and cross-cultural understanding, making them accessible and enjoyable for learners at all levels.
In my teaching, I believe learning Chinese should be personal, engaging, and connected to each student’s real-life goals. I start by understanding what motivates my learners and design lessons around their interests—whether that means practicing conversation, learning characters, or improving pronunciation. I combine structured grammar explanations with plenty of speaking and listening practice to help students use Chinese naturally and confidently.
