I'm currently a graduating senior completing a Bachelor's in Economics at Eastern Washington University, with a minor in Accounting. I've been an accounting and economics tutor for the past two years for my University, and I've discovered that I really enjoy helping students find their confidence with these subjects. I've also worked as an Academic Coach, which means I know a lot about study strategies, note-taking, and test preparation, offering a more holistic avenue of support for students.
My strategies are very personalized depending on the student's learning style and the specific concepts they may be struggling with; I like to say that my job is finding many different ways to explain the same idea until it clicks for my audience. I will typically begin with a big-picture explanation to help illustrate why the concept is important and to get my students invested. I'll then walk them through various examples of how concepts can be applied, offering clear steps for the entire process. Finally, I'll give them the opportunity to apply these steps on their own, and offer feedback and support when needed.
In my previous experience, I've taught college students of a variety of ages, from 16 to 70+ years old. I was hired by my university to offer general economics and accounting support, as well as to cater to specific course-content; I have taught large groups (15+), small groups, and individuals, both online and in-person. My sessions tend to be very flexible, addressing specific needs as they are identified, but I also do more structured lessons typically in preparation for exams. I've had many students come to my session completely defeated, convinced that they have no chance at understanding something, and my favorite feeling in the world is giving them the tools and building their confidence; this stuff is totally knowable, and especially so with the right support!
