I’m Ashley! I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2023. I studied childhood development and the importance of early foundational years. I really discovered my teaching style, though, through my student teaching experience. I worked with second and third graders at Adams Elementary. During this time, I was able to work with a strong mentor teacher who showed me the importance of classroom management, relationship building, and setting expectations. Students are often more capable than we give them credit for and will rise with the right support and encouragement. My teaching style focuses on explicit instruction and opportunities for practice. I use the I Do, We Do, You Do method, so students know exactly what their learning target is and how to get there. I then gradually decrease scaffolding until they can complete the task independently. I also focus on showing students how to find answers independently using various resources. My goal is to give students the skills for the task as well as hone problem-solving skills that can transfer to other areas as well.

This school year (2024-25), I was offered a position as a long-term substitute in the resource room at an elementary school. I work with students from kindergarten to fifth grade in small groups targeting specific skills based on students’ IEP goals in various subjects including reading, writing, math, and behavior. I create specially designed lesson plans that cater to the needs of each of my students, assess data, and collaborate with my students’ classroom teachers and others who work with them to decide what to focus on regarding each of their goals. Students are often performing at quite diverse levels within our small groups, so there is even differentiation between each student.

I want to help students feel confident in their ability to set ambitious goals and achieve them, and to develop skills that promote independence and critical thinking. I would love to answer any questions you may have or schedule a lesso
