I am a elementary teacher candidate in Spokane, WA currently enrolled in classes at Whitworth University to receive my elementary education teaching credential and my master's in education. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis, where I majored in English and minored in both Spanish and Education.
In my coursework at Whitworth University, I have had the privilege of beginning my teaching career surrounded by like-minded students who are all passionate about teaching and having classrooms of our own. I am currently in the first year of my two year program at Whitworth, and will be completing my student teaching next year at a local Spokane area school.
While receiving my minor in Education at UC Davis, I had the opportunity to work in multiple third grade classrooms where I gained valuable experience in working one-on-one with children who were struggling, primarily in reading and writing. I assisted my host teachers with creating art projects, providing individualized support to small groups, and assisting in a class environment with a wide variety of students. My personal philosophy is that all children want to do well, and it is our job as teachers to provide the pathways to allow for children to succeed.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked as a nanny and tutor for a family while their children were attending online school. In this setting, I created engaging projects, activities, lesson plans, and field trips to engage the children and keep them moving outside of the house, despite the limitations placed on us by social distancing. I strove to create an environment where these children felt comfortable and supported as both they and their parents navigated a new experience during the advent of online learning.
It is my goal as a future classroom teacher to provide a safe, caring, and supportive place for all children. I look forward to working with the students on this platform and contributing to my knowledge and love of education through tutoring.
