Hello! I have been teaching biology for ~6 years. At first as a biology teaching assistant at The University of Texas at Austin and now as a lecturer in the biology department at the University of Washington. Before moving to Seattle to lecture, I was awarded an ‘outstanding biology TA’ from the bio department at UT Austin. My favorite part about teaching is guiding students to reach the "ah-ha!" lightbulb moments on their own. The courses I’ve taught covers basic biology concepts which include:
- Chemical bonds and chemical reactions (coupling and redox reactions)
- DNA replication, transcription and translation
- Cell signaling and protein structures
- Cellular respiration
- Membrane transport (passive and active transport)
- Neurophysiology (action potentials and ion movement)
- Skeletal muscle physiology
- Cardiovascular phys
- Respiratory phys
- Renal phys
- Endocrine system
- And more!
My physiology is not limited to mammals either! I have also taught a course that covers:
- Plant defenses (immune responses)
- Photosynthesis
- Elongation (asymmetric and symmetric elongation)
- Transpiration (water movement through the plant)
- Flowering
- Nutrient uptake by roots
I’ve taught a wide range of students before, spanning from kindergarten to university students. The area I have spent the most time is with the 18+ age range as I have been teaching at universities for awhile. My tutoring style is work with the student to see what their needs/goals are for the class and to help them reach those goals are their own with my guidance.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing video games, listening to kpop and finding good food!
