Hi, I'm Lionel! I started my educational career giving riding and driving lessons at a show horse barn to folks who were anywhere from 5 to 65 years old. I majored in biology with a minor in molecular biology, and I'm still working in the research lab I started in as an undergrad with a particular focus on zebrafish husbandry practices. I taught the lab section for the 2025 Animal Development (i.e. embryology) course at WSU Vancouver, where I really started to refine my scientific communication and settle in to my own teaching style.
I have experience tutoring neurodivergent students at high school and college levels, and I pride myself in my ability to help students work with their own brains instead of against them. To this end, each of my sessions is set as a 1-3 hour block in my schedule to account for breaks for processing needs and physiological resets. I find it incredibly fulfilling to help students find what maximizes their executive function and long term success while encouraging a lifestyle of continual curiosity and love for learning.
While my professional teaching and tutoring experience is primarily at the high school and undergraduate level, I am more than happy to take on middle school students and older elementary schoolers.
