Hello. I am a full time tutor and specialize in AP Physics, Honors Physics, first year College Physics, Calculus, and Chemistry. I have an undergraduate degree in physics with minors in math and chemistry from Virginia Tech and an M. A. in Teaching with a focus on science education from Boston University. I am also a former physics and chemistry teacher.

I tutored informally throughout high school and college, helping classmates with homework and preparing for tests. In the last few years I have tutored formally through in person sessions as well as online using Wyzant's videoconferencing software. Many of my students have complemented me on my patience as well as ability to illustrate difficult concepts.

I have a strong background in mathematics, having earned a mathematics minor at Virginia Tech and applying mathematics from algebra to advanced calculus in my physics courses. I have tutored students at different levels of mathematics from middle school topics such as pre-algebra to high school topics such as geometry, algebra, and pre-calculus, and college level courses such as differential, integral, and multivariable calculus. I am also familiar with teaching students how to apply mathematics concepts to physical problems.

After earning a B.S. in physics, I taught Physics, Chemistry, and Physical Science for several years as a high school teacher. I am familiar with breaking difficult physical concepts down to aid in understanding and helping students develop skills in approaching and working through problems.

AMAZING PHYSICS TUTOR

Ms. Jean is an amazing tutor! My son was in honor Physics with the most difficult instructor. (I protested the teacher with the school and they said, get a tutor!) Ms. Jean slowly, calmly, impeccably finished the year with an A in physics. She is totally accommodating with timing, especially the night before tests. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT JEAN S.

Excellent Tutor

Thank you for helping A to gain confidence in geometry. Jean is very honest and always charges only for the time actually taught.

understanding students at their level individually

Jean helps my daughter with AP Physics Mechanics and she is wonderful in explaining complex concepts simply. My daughter is a good student but frankly this class is tough as AP should be. My daughter loves how diligent Jean explains and how Jean is able to make comcplex alien concepts to become friendlier and more at level of Junior student. Jean is wonderful for us and she is very understanding and supportive. We are very happy we found Jean!

Prepared, flexible, and patient

As usual, Jean was very prepared for our son’s tutoring session. She worked on current lessons and topics. With a few extra minutes left in the session, Jean switched to SAT prep. It was a fantastic addition!

One session and we’re hooked!

After just one session with Jean my son’s confidence and knowledge improved. She was kind, patient and took the time to explain problems that his teacher just presented to the class and expected them to figure out. As a mom of a student who is dedicated and who normally excels in the classroom she was an answer to our prayers!

Carolyn, 9 lessons with Jean

Easy to work with, great explanations

Jean put up with our disorganization and still managed to help my daughter with her physics. It was great to have her work through some homework she had struggled with. But the proof is in the pudding: we have signed up for regular lessons with her.
