I love teaching, and have been tutoring for more than twenty years now. I have worked with students in subjects ranging from college level physics to high school essay writing to elementary school math, but now I focus solely on high school math and physics.

I first started tutoring in high school. While I was studying physics at the University of Washington, I worked as a volunteer tutor, a physics teaching assistant, and an SAT/ACT prep coach. I also worked for the Physics Education Group at the UW. I became interested in how people learn, and decided to pursue a graduate degree in cognitive psychology. I received my MA in cognition and learning in 2011. Then I came back home to Seattle to tutor math and physics full-time.

I especially love teaching students the skills to do well on their own: problem solving, studying, test taking, how to read questions, etc. The coursework for my master's degree was focused on learning: learning differences, curriculum, and development. My master's thesis was on physics misconceptions, and I did research on gender differences in the sciences.

I love math and physics and finding ways to make them interesting and fun for others. I tailor my approach and teaching style to each individual.

I meet with students online, using zoom and OneNote.

Wonderful tutor in every way.

Sarah is a gifted teacher. She has an excellent grasp of the material, high school physics and math in our my daughter's case, and a real gift for explaining the material to someone who is struggling with it. She is extremely reliable and easy to reach by email or phone. She always responds in a timely way to my calls and emails. She has increased my daughter's confidence in her ability to grasp difficult material, and I would definitely recommend her to any student.

Excellent progress!

Sarah was very focused and proactive! My son came away with an action plan, which is exactly what we were hoping. He enjoyed working with Sarah and felt like the time was productive and well spent. Our goal was to have her assess his skills and readiness for calculus. She not only assessed his strengths and weaknesses but gave him the tools he needed to self-study outside of their tutoring sessions. Wonderful!

Knowledgeable and patient

My son has had tutors for years. Sarah is the first tutor that made a massive impact on my sons grade for algebra and physics. My son struggled with the concept and working out the problems. By the end of his session he felt confident with a positive attitude toward his classes.

The Best Tutor

Sarah C. is by far the best tutor we came across. My son had classes with her for the past two months and wishes that he had her as a regular teacher in school. She is an expert in the subject and she makes complex problem so easy to understand. She is highly recommended.

Patient and Perceptive

My daughter has been working on her Algebra skills with Sarah for several weeks now and is doing great! Her skills and test scores have improved, and she is really enjoying her lessons with Sarah. Whenever she doesn't quite understand something presented to her, Sarah seeks out a different approach to present the concept in a way that my daughter can grasp. Even though she has joined the "Algebra lab" at school as another means to help her in her studies, she refuses to give up her tutoring time with Sarah, which she always enjoys and finds very helpful! Overall, great tutor!

Great tutor

We've loved working with Sarah. She helped my daughter sharpen her skills, and gave her great test-taking strategies, too. She was always quick to respond to questions and flexible with scheduling when we needed to make changes. We highly recommend her!

Superb Teacher!

My son is extremely impressed with Sarah's tutoring. Sarah helped him immensely with comprehension as well as problem solving. The subject is very challenging - AP Physics C. Yet Sarah guided him to find deeper understanding of the course. I think the unique combination of math and physics with psychology that Sarah possesses was the key in the ultimate success.
