Hi! My name is Grace and I am a tutor for kids K-8. I have over 4 years experience working with a range of students including those with special needs. I’ve taught in a variety of settings including tutoring online and in person, volunteering at a daycare, teaching swim lessons, and assisting in elementary classrooms. Throughout this experience I’ve learned that school is about more than understanding the concepts taught in school. It’s also about understanding how to apply the information to the real world and about fostering curiosity. I graduated with a High Honors Associates of Arts and Sciences degree and am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. Additionally, I’ve taken classes such as Child Development. I use what I’ve learned through my education and hands on experience to better tailor my lessons to each child’s needs.
My style of teaching is to adapt the material to meet the already existing interests of the student to make it more engaging and help the student better retain what they learn. I also like to integrate self reflection and advocacy skills into the sessions. This allows the students to better learn how to identify what they are struggling on and advocate for themselves in the classroom. I believe every student has a unique way of learning and try to cater each lesson to engage how they learn best, whether they are a strong listener, strong visual learner, or learn best by hands on practice. Within a lesson I like to give the student the opportunity to ask questions and guide their learning in a way that keeps them curious, while also incorporating all the key points they need to learn to succeed at their homework or in the classroom. I start with an introduction to the topic, walk them through an example, then give them opportunities to practice and build confidence in their skills.
I look forward to giving your child the best chance to succeed in homework, in school, and in life!
